She turned back.

“Are you ok? Sick, or anything? Anything I can help with?” His voice still showed surprise and confusion; Ana wondered how long it had taken for that expression to fade from her own face.

“I’ve been sick, some. For a few days now. But my doctor says that’s a sign things...are going well.” She motioned to her stomach. “I went the afternoon Georgia pulled me into this case. The baby… is fine. And has eyelids already.” She’d have to go back to her bag and get him the ultrasound pictures. Let him see the little life they’d made between them.

“Good. Good. If you need anything, come to me. Please?” He still looked so shell-shocked. But he wasn’t pushing her away, or angry, or making demands of her. Other than for a little while to think.

Ana understood.

Ana nodded. “I’ll do that. I really am sorry to do this to you, Fin.”

She turned and walked away. What else could she do?
